Overview:  AV-6 Science Flight #6 returned after a successful flight over Edouard. Edouard was upgraded to a Cat 2 hurricane during the flight. AVAPS has worked some instrument issues today and is ready for tomorrow’s flight.

Tomorrow’s flight is planned for 24 hours with a nominal takeoff of 0800. There is a possibility of delayed takeoff due to weather. If that happens, it may be possible for a slight delay, or even an evening takeoff at 1800.

Overview:  AV-6 Science Flight #6 is currently flying and is scheduled to land at 0700 EDT tomorrow. During today's flight Edouard was upgraded to a Cat 1 hurricane. As I write this, sondes are dropping at high frequency into the eye of the storm.

Tuesday is the next possible flight day. Mission science is aiming for a 0700 takeoff but will make the final decision tomorrow morning based on the local forecast for Tuesday morning. A Tuesday evening takeoff at 1800 would be the backup plan.

All instrument teams should plan to be at D-1 by 0900 tomorrow for Postflight/Preflight for a Tuesday takeoff.

Overview:  AV-6 Science Flight #5 is scheduled to takeoff this evening at 1800 EDT for a 25-hr flight into TD06 (formerly P29/I91L). This system was upgraded to a tropical depression around 1130 EDT. The issue with the Iridium links that postponed yesterday’s takeoff was the fault of the service provider and has been resolved. 65 sondes are loaded for this flight.

Overview:  AV-6 Science Flight #5 is scheduled to takeoff today at 1800 EDT for a 25-hr flight into P29/91L. The disturbance is still unorganized, but it is expected by most models to consolidate and slowly intensify. The NHC gives a 20-70% chance of development into a TC in 2-5 days. 65 sondes are loaded for this flight.

Tentative schedule for next AV-6 flight would be takeoff Friday evening with P29/91L as the target again, although the local weather doesn’t look too promising.
