INTEX-B - General Info - Honolulu

Team - Hawaii Deployment

An orientation package will be provided to you upon arrival at Hickam. The following information should help in your planning.

BADGING: U.S. Citizens will be provided passes, and foreign nationals will be issued badges. The DC-8 will be met by ESPO (Mike Gaunce and Marilyn Vasques), and badges/passes will be distributed at that time. For those of you arriving commercially, contact Mike or Marilyn to arrange to get your badge before you enter the base. Cell phones: Mike Gaunce (650-575-9415) / Marilyn Vasques (650-279-2457)

Base maps will be provided when we provide the badges/passes.

Guests can visit the Hickam facility only through group arrangements. We are currently looking into these arrangements. More information will follow.

TRANSPORTATION: After you pick up your badge/pass, your rental car agreement, badge/pass, and ID will get you in the gate each day.

Taxis are allowed to come on the base, but the company has to have a Pearl Harbor Navy pass. Ask the driver to see their Pearl Harbor pass. If they don’t have one, the taxi will have to drop you at the front gate.

LODGING: When you arrive at Hickam, if you are staying on base, you should go to billeting in Building 1153 to pick up your keys. You will need to provide your travel authorization (invitational orders will be provided for non civil servants) and ID to pick up your keys. Each room has a phone. Each room will have dial up Internet access, and the lobby has high-speed and wireless.

LAB SPACE: The lab and office space will be in B2155. The layout will be posted prior to your arrival. The building is at 290 Engine Test Road. A map will be provided by ESPO in the orientation package when you arrive.

FLIGHT LINE: Flight-line access will be from a pre-approved list. We have submitted all the names of team members who informed Kathy Thompson they were planning to be in Hawaii.

Accommodations
Military Housing
U.S. citizens who are not accompanied by a guest (e.g., spouse, significant other, child, friend) are encouraged to use military housing at the Hickam Air Force Base. Most of the rooms will be two-bedroom apartments, with separate bedrooms and a shared bathroom, living room, and kitchen (microwave and refrigerator). These two-bedroom units also have in-room laundry facilities, and some include a stove and cooking utensils. The rate for the two-bedroom units is $28 per bedroom/$56 per unit. There are a limited number of rooms available at Hickam, so reservation requests will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you wish to reserve lodging at Hickam, contact Kathy Thompson (kathyathompson@qwest.net). See Kathys e-mail of 1-5-06 for more info.

Car Rental

For those arriving in Honolulu on the DC-8, there will be a shuttle bus taking folks from Hickam to the Honolulu Airport to pick up cars. We have not made any special arrangements with a particular vendor, so you are free to make reservations with the rental car agency of your choice ... as long as they have an office at HNL.

For those transiting from Honolulu to Anchorage on the DC-8, note that most rental car agencies will drop you off at Hickam after you return your car to the Honolulu Airport. Please confirm that this service is available when you make your reservations so you will know if you need to make other arrangements.
