Dear Colleagues,

We would like to draw your attention to the AGU 2024 Fall Meeting session on Advances in the Integrated Global Observing System for Air Quality: Science and Societal Benefit<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fagu.confex.com%2Fagu%2Fagu24%2Fprelim.cgi%2FSession%2F228528&data=05%7C02%7Casia-aq-2024%40espo.nasa.gov%7Cea3e65db1eed432969f908dca68c8232%7C7005d45845be48ae8140d43da96dd17b%7C0%7C0%7C638568369616306954%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=03OwSJs9bWEyN9XPmc7sbna6bqokhzyPWM2ivzUcVNM%3D&reserved=0>.

New satellite instruments and remote sensing techniques are enabling advances in spatial, temporal, and vertical characterization of air quality. The integrated observing system for air quality brings together these satellite observations with ground-based monitoring, aircraft observations, and models to advance our understanding of atmospheric composition for societal benefit. Observations from OMI and TROPOMI provide spectacular long-term and high sensitivity/spatial resolution, respectively, of atmospheric composition. Diurnal observations are now available from GEMS and TEMPO and will become available from Sentinel-4 (to be extended to GEO-XO). Maximizing the science, applications, and societal benefit from these new capabilities requires integration with ground-based in situ and remote-sensing (Pandora, AERONET), airborne observations, and models. We invite submissions including Satellite mission results/status/validation strategies; Field campaigns prototyping satellite capabilities; Satellite proxies for air quality; Data assimilation/inverse methods to improve forecasting, emissions inventories, etc.; Modeling the observing system; Environmental justice; PBL characterization/relationship to pollution; Understanding pollutant trends.

Abstracts to the AGU 2024 Fall Meeting are due July 31, 2024.

Thank you for your consideration,

Emma Knowland (Morgan State University/GESTAR-II, NASA GMAO)
Deborah Stein (KNMI)
