Subject: A038 - Assessing and Reporting Atmospheric Instrumental Uncertainty and Measurement Consistency
Session Title: A038 - Assessing and Reporting Atmospheric Instrumental Uncertainty and Measurement Consistency
Session description: The quantitative assessment and documentation of measurement uncertainties is fundamental to the value of large-scale field studies and long-term monitoring networks which play a vital role in assessing variability and trends of atmospheric composition and improving models and remote sensing instruments. The assessment includes evaluations of instrument uncertainties and the consistency between different instruments for the same parameter. To date, the atmospheric community is still struggling to consistently assess instrument uncertainties and to understand and resolve instrumental discrepancies identified in comparisons. The results of these assessments need to be reported in standardized quantities to enable proper use in various analysis efforts. This session solicits presentations on the methods, outcomes, reporting of measurement comparisons and assessments of instrument uncertainties from both field studies and laboratory measurements of atmospheric parameters and chemical and aerosol species in air, using in-situ, off-line, and remote sensing approaches.
