ARISE Science Overview

ARISE: Arctic Radiation - IceBridge Sea&Ice Experiment

Primary Science Goal

To develop a quantitative process level understanding of the relationship between Arctic sea ice and regional energy budget as influenced by clouds. Primary focus will be over Arctic sea ice and open water, with minor coverage over Greenland land ice.

Sub-Goals

  1. Characterize sea ice presence, type, and surface conditions
  2. Measure incoming and outgoing spectral radiation
  3. Characterize cloud properties, especially optics
  4. Characterize aerosol properties, especially optics
  5. Supporting various satellite calibration and validation efforts
