[Pace-pax] Dry run recap and next steps

Hi everybody,

I’d like to thank everybody for what I believe was a successful first dry run for the PACE-PAX field campaign. Between September 11th and 15th, we created flight plans and ‘flew’ flights on the 12th and 14th. Had it been a real campaign and everything worked the way it should, these would have been very successful flight days. Of course, we have a lot to do before the real campaign, but this exercise helped us understand what we need to work on before that time. I would especially like to thank everybody who provided feedback, which we have incorporated into our planning tools. Such feedback is always welcome. Our next step is a mission wide risk assessment, scheduled for Oct. 10th at noon EDT in our monthly all-hands meeting. I would like each instrument and aircraft team (plus the forecasting and data archive teams) to come with a risk assessment. I’ve attached the current PACE-PAX overall risk table which you can use – please score consequence against the successful operation of your component, not the mission as a whole. This will be our first attempt at this, so perfection isn’t expected.

Finally, I should note the potential impact of a US gov’t shutdown in the coming weeks. Should that occur, starting Oct. 2nd civil servants such as myself will be furloughed and unable to read or respond to emails, attend meetings, or otherwise work. Any PACE-PAX meetings we have scheduled during that time will be postponed.
