[Exports_project_office] post meeting comments about the walkies during quarantine

Dear Ivona and all,

Agree the plan makes sense. As for #1, I also strongly believe that outdoor exercise is safe provided rules are adhered to – which I also feel confident that people will. Weighing all this I favor letting us all out after the 2nd day test.

As for exchange of goods- Most of us have been going to the grocery store at least sometimes- we wipe down out carts right before using and off we go. (Even covid-conservativeTrader Joes has switched back using the customers personal bags to pack groceries rather than make you use theirs !) How about we tell people to bring wipes or gloves (e.g., for opening up a box) if they anticipate exchanges? If it’s something that can’t be easily wiped, then let it sit for a day. I think the ship’s 3-day rule is a bit crazy, but then you can’t easily wipe down an entire piece of equipment.

Best,
Debbie

Hi Ivona,

I think this plan makes sense. It minimizes risk early during quarantine following lots of travel time and eventually provides some mental and physical relief outside, while adhering to protocols put in place by the UK whether or not we are required to follow it. It includes 2 lf tests and one PCR test result and minimizes the potential for bad optics Ken referred to in his previous email.

Clearly the anonymous comments span the gamut from grateful due to the need for physical movement to, well, at least one that was not as well thought out, helpful, or considerate of the human side of the project.

In regard to the exchange of materials, do we have a list started for those exchanges, similar to the one for the ship-ship exchange? In the big scheme of things, these exchanges are limited in number relative to the exchange of breakfast, trash bins, groceries, Amazon packages, and testing interactions, etc. that will be happening frequently. It seems that the person can deliver the package to the door of the receiver, knock, and go away. There could be a waiting period before the person opens their door or something to that effect. Unless exchanges are extremely timely, I don’t see why these can’t wait until day 5 as well. At that point, direct exchange between those testing negative is probably preferred to asking an intermediate, such as hotel staff, to make the delivery.

Jason

As smart people say, I did some soul and UK.gov<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fuk.gov%2F&data=04%7C01%7Cdebbies%40vims.edu%7C54d9ec784a3d4ccd364e08d8fb1275de%7C8cbcddd9588d4e3b9c1e2367dbdf1740%7C0%7C0%7C637535404016597014%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=D1x1gnVI3deEaKfCZYD7BERTry9Gcgcnn3de09zWbTo%3D&reserved=0> searching, and my suggestion is following:

1) wait to 5th day test (happy to drop it down to 2nd day test, but here following the UK suggested rules)
2) allow people walkies (following the predetermined rules)
3) masks obligatory (note - if running or exercising with no people around, ok to drop it down, otherwise up. e.g. current rules in my county: Whether you are out walking or jogging, wearing a face covering when you are likely to be within six feet of someone, even if it is solely in passing, is required)

we need a procedure for exchange of goods among the rooms - probably also starting after the 5th day test. I think quarantine is too much but some alcohol spraying or something?

THANK YOU for working on getting us outside time - I will take advantage of every minute of it and be so grateful!!!!!!!!! <3

(private comment to me that I am not copying here) That said, I am pretty concerned about people being able to leave quarantine. I get it, we all want to be outside. But it seems like a tremendous risk to the program. Two weeks just isn't that long considering how big this program is and how much is riding on it. Similar to the questions of passing materials between rooms. If equipment has to quarantine for 3 days why should we be able to pass items between rooms? Jesus, plan ahead people! And don't be so spoiled. Listening to all these demands for special favors and treatment (which adds so much stress to your plate) feels really whiny and privileged.

Feel like the time outside is a nice gesture but really goes against everything we are trying to accomplish and a risk I am not sure it worth taking. 2 weeks is not that long. Just feel supported if you want to refuse this request.
