Hello everyone,
I would like to encourage you to participate in this training session related to workplace harassment. Given our frequent deployments throughout the year, it's crucial to recognize harassment situations, prevent them, and respond effectively when they occur.
Please refer to the schedule below for timing and registration details.
Thank you!

Subject: [arc-code-s-all] Invitation to participate in Bystander Intervention training
Dear All,

Are you one of the many, who have witnessed something inappropriate happening to someone else? If you are, you may have asked yourself – like I did once – how do I react, how can I help, and what should I do. If you are seeking answers to these questions, and you want to be effective helping: look right here. Courtesy of our DIAC, we are offering to you this class, which (in my own experience) provides excellent information, techniques, and answers. More information is below. In our joint pursuit of making our organization the best it can be, I encourage you to sign up here: https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fforms.office.com%2Fg%2Fr2a12QV13c&data=05%7C02%7Call%40espo.nasa.gov%7C47bef4bf8db64232bbaf08dc5fc5cbcd%7C7005d45845be48ae8140d43da96dd17b%7C0%7C0%7C638490550334421853%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=kAnTdukqWBk50AnI5VSk%2F7OpVshXf3HWpHMugqILsVY%3D&reserved=0<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fforms.office.com%2Fg%2Fr2a12QV13c&data=05%7C02%7Call%40espo.nasa.gov%7C47bef4bf8db64232bbaf08dc5fc5cbcd%7C7005d45845be48ae8140d43da96dd17b%7C0%7C0%7C638490550334421853%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=kAnTdukqWBk50AnI5VSk%2F7OpVshXf3HWpHMugqILsVY%3D&reserved=0>

Thanks much and best wishes,

Are you invested in making our workplace a safer and more welcoming one? One of the most successful ways to reduce workplace harassment is "Bystander Intervention," a system designed to reduce the burden on individuals protecting themselves by engaging the community to shoulder some of the burden. The key is to have the community recognize that harassment ultimately harms science itself. This is an evidence-based approach supported by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

You can become one of those supportive community members.
US Geological Survey (USGS) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have co-developed the USGS StepUp! Employee Empowerment Strategies (SEES) training to address harassment in the workplace. The goals of the USGS SEES Bystander Intervention Training are to: 1) Raise awareness of barriers to helping, 2) Raise awareness of behaviors that can help, 3) Increase attendees’ motivation and desire to help, 4) Help attendees develop skills and confidence when responding to various levels of harassment and 5) Ensure the safety and well-being of attendees. This program is intended to applicable to the broader scientific community.

Code S DIAC and USGS are happy to offer you an opportunity to take this course.
Please see the sign up form here: https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fforms.office.com%2Fg%2Fr2a12QV13c&data=05%7C02%7Call%40espo.nasa.gov%7C47bef4bf8db64232bbaf08dc5fc5cbcd%7C7005d45845be48ae8140d43da96dd17b%7C0%7C0%7C638490550334421853%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=kAnTdukqWBk50AnI5VSk%2F7OpVshXf3HWpHMugqILsVY%3D&reserved=0<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fforms.office.com%2Fg%2Fr2a12QV13c&data=05%7C02%7Call%40espo.nasa.gov%7C47bef4bf8db64232bbaf08dc5fc5cbcd%7C7005d45845be48ae8140d43da96dd17b%7C0%7C0%7C638490550334421853%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=kAnTdukqWBk50AnI5VSk%2F7OpVshXf3HWpHMugqILsVY%3D&reserved=0>
to request a slot in the upcoming bystander trainings being offered for Code S. Be sure to get approval from your supervisor to take this course. There will be one in-person session and 2 virtual offerings in late May and early June. Please sign up early, as there is a limited number of openings for each date. Sign-ups will remain open until the spots are filled.
If you take the bystander training course and are further interested in becoming a trainer for this material, there will be an opportunity at the beginning of July to sign up to take the train-the-trainer course. This course is more extensive and will take place in September of 2024.
