Hi all,
In case you missed this notice, please update your phones to iOS 17 when you have some time today. While the update is not due until Wednesday and they mentioned they would be delaying blocks put in place due to insufficient updates during the furlough, I believe it would be better to be safe than sorry and take care of this update before next week.
Kind Regards,
Sam

Distribution Date:
September 29, 2023
To:
End Users with an MDM-Registered iPhone or iPad That is Below the Minimum Mobile Operating System Version
Subject:
REMINDER: Update Your Mobile Device by Wednesday, October 4
Note: If you have already completed the update, no action is required.
What’s Happening:
All end users with an iPhone or iPad that is registered in Mobile Device Management (MDM) are required to update their mobile operating system to iOS/iPadOS version 17.0.1 or above for continued access to NASA email and applications.
If you do not complete the Action Recommended steps by Wednesday, October 4, mobile access to NASA may be removed from your device.
IMPORTANT: The option to upgrade to previously released iOS/iPadOS versions, including 16.7, may be available from the Software Update prompt but will not meet NASA requirements – do not select iOS 16.7. Be sure to select Upgrade to iOS 17 to get the correct version. Please see an example of the prompt below to ensure you update to the correct version.
Background:
All MDM-registered iPhones and iPads that connect to NASA are required to be maintained at the current operating system supported by the vendor. Any mobile device that is non-compliant (below the required minimum mobile operating system version) may lose access to NASA email and applications. The NASA apps and data that are delivered via MDM will be automatically removed from your device, and you will be unable to access NASA (email, Teams, and other apps) on the device.
Once the device is updated to the minimum operating system version, the MaaS360 container will be automatically restored to the device. You will be required to set a new MaaS360 PIN to regain access to NASA. You will need to manually re-install the O365 apps from the App Catalog. Refer to the Mobile Apps Support Portal<https://nasa.sharepoint.com/sites/mobileapps> for more information and instructions.
Action Recommended:
Update Your Mobile Device by Wednesday, October 4
IMPORTANT: Please read and follow all the steps by Wednesday, October 4, or NASA data may be removed from your device.
1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap General.
3. Tap Software Update. Any available updates will appear.
Note: If your device is still running a version of iOS 16, you will see a screen like the one below. Be sure to tap Upgrade to iOS 17 to get the correct version. Do not select iOS 16.7.

If your device is running version iOS 17, you will see the option to update to iOS 17.0.1, as shown in the prompt below.
[iOS Software Update screen showing the option to "Update Now" to iOS 17.0.1]
1. Tap Download and Install or Update Now to install iOS 17.0.1.
Once the update is installed, follow the additional steps below. These steps instruct your device to check in with MDM and report that your device has been updated.
1. Open the MaaS360 app.
2. Tap Settings.
If you do not see the Settings icon, tap the hamburger menu icon (three horizontal lines in the upper-left corner) to return to the app’s home screen.
3. Tap the refresh icon (arrow pointed in a clockwise circle) in the upper-right corner.
After tapping the refresh icon, you can continue using the device normally. There is no need to wait for the refresh to finish, and the app will not notify you when the refresh is complete.
If your device has already been updated, a screen like the one below will appear:
[iOS Software Update screen showing the software is up to date]
If you encounter this screen, you should still complete steps 5-7 by Wednesday, October 4.
Additional Information:
If your device is running iOS 16 and does not show an option for iOS 17, it may not be compatible with iOS/iPadOS 17.
