Good afternoon team,

macOS 10.15 Catalina is available for you to upgrade to, if you desire. It will probably take about an hour. You should probably do this process at the end of a workday in case something goes wrong.

Here’s an overview of the process. Details are below that.

  * Check you have a current Time Machine backup that works
  * Install NTAM 2020.1 Full and Optional (Self Service)
  *   Uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection
  *   Install Catalina update
  *   Install Symantec Endpoint Protection

Details

What is Catalina?
Your Mac laptop runs an operating system called macOS, and unless your name is Bernie the current version you have installed is macOS 10.14 “Mojave.” The numerical versions have corresponding names: version 10.15 can be referred to as Catalina.

Why upgrade?
There are new macOS features that come along with Catalina (search Google for more details), and smart cards function better. There are also some limitations, like only being able to run the FastTrack Schedule beta and a higher possibility of incompatible software (like random shutdown issues).

Instructions

  * Ensure you have a current Time Machine backup. You may want to confirm at least some of it is working by restoring a file.

Open Time Machine to perform a restore

-          Open Spotlight (CMD+spacebar)

- Select a folder with a lot of your files and click the up arrow to the right of Finder to go back to the oldest version of the file available

- Pick a file and choose Restore

-          Click Keep Both

- Test and compare both files to ensure they are the same

Uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection: Open it from the upper right menu bar (yellow shield icon) > click Symantec Endpoint Protection (upper left menu) > choose Uninstall.

     * Set up a weekly scan:
        * Click the yellow shield icon in the top menu bar > Symantec Endpoint Protection > Open Symantec Endpoint Protection
        *   Click Settings (left)
