The following daily average vertical column abundances were retrieved from solar absorption spectra measured by the JPL MkIV Interferometer, a FTIR spectrometer. These ground-based observations were performed from Esrange, sweden, before each of the two balloon flights that the MkIV instrument also did from Esrange. These observations were mostly taken in the morning between 09:00 and 10:30 UT or around noon. There was only one observation day (Nov 9) prior to the setting of the sun for the winter. Observations resumed on Jan 22'nd. The retrieval of the column abundances was performed by the GFIT algorithm, which used temperature profiles measured from sondes launched from Esrange, and an initial set of vmr profiles derived from MkIV balloon measurements, which were then stretched/compressed above 10 km altitude to account for day-to-day variations in the amount of subsidence. Note that all of the gases were retrieved from the same spectra and can therefore be considered as simultaneous measurements in the same airmass. Although this file is dated 09-Nov-99, this was actually the first of 22 days of observation extending through the winter until 12-Mar-00. These results are concatenated into a single file for ease of handling. The errors tabulated in the main part of the data file, determined from the quality of the spectral fits, represent the 1-sigma measurement precisions. These errors are appropriate for comparing columns measured on different days. For most gases, the main systematic errors arise from uncertainties in the assumed vmr profiles shapes, and from uncertainties in the spectroscopic parameters (of both the target gas and interfering gases). Note that the data in this file can also be obtained in a spreadsheet format by anonymous FTP to: mark4sun.jpl.nasa.gov:ftp/pub/outgoing/gnd/m419991109_esn_columns_r1.ftir.ss PRIMARY VARIABLES. All primary variables are vertical column abundances in molec.cm-2 The variables tco2, to3, tch4 are also co2, o3 and ch4 column abundances respectively, but were derived from T-sensitive lines, so that the tx/x ratio can be used to investigate the accuracy of the temperature profiles at various altitudes.
