[1997]. The total chlorine (TotalCl) and total bromine (TotalBr) content of each sampled air mass was calculated from the documented tropospheric trends of chlorinated and brominated trace gases (e.g., Montzka et al. [1996]) and weighted with a mean age spectrum calculated by Hall & Plumb [1994]. Inorganic chlorine (Cly) and inorganic bromine (Bry) were calculated as TotalCl-CCly and TotalBr-CBry, respectively.
