Dear Colleagues,
We'd like to invite you to submit an abstract to our session “Geostationary Satellite Observations of Atmospheric Composition” at AGU Fall Meeting 2023, taking place from December 11th to 15th in San Francisco, CA, and online everywhere.
- Section: Atmospheric Sciences
- Session Title: A068 – Geostationary Satellite Observations of Atmospheric Composition (https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fagu.confex.com%2Fagu%2Ffm23%2Fprelim.cgi%2FSession%2F190948&data=05%7C01%7Ctempo%40espo.nasa.gov%7Cc0760dbb72274b36046f08db79972b7b%7C7005d45845be48ae8140d43da96dd17b%7C0%7C0%7C638237462400220615%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=IVEFtZbs3JvbaFBIvojzTWFgR54FMkeISVGiQUsWqF8%3D&reserved=0)
- Session Description:
Air quality monitoring over North America is facing a new era with the recent launch of TEMPO, a space-borne instrument providing diurnal observations of atmospheric composition from geostationary Earth orbit (GEO). Geostationary air quality observations over North America are planned to continue into the next decade with the GeoXO ACX instrument. New instruments with high sensitivity and resolution will support enhanced air-quality investigations, exerting synergistic effects with well-established low-Earth-orbit (LEO) instruments. The TEMPO instrument forms the geostationary air quality constellation with GEMS (Asia) and Sentinel-4 (Europe). Well-defined validation strategies are essential for the successful applications of new GEO satellite observations, including intercomparisons with ground-based, airborne, and LEO observations. Synergies with aerosol observations from geostationary meteorology/ocean-color satellite series are expected, including GOES (America), GK-2 (Asia), Himawari (Asia), Meteosat (Europe), etc. We invite presentations regarding the calibration of space-borne instruments, trace-gas/aerosol/cloud/surface retrievals, intercomparison/validation, and air-quality applications of satellite products.
