Hello everyone,
Due to unresolved maintenance issues with the LaRC G-III aircraft, we had to make the painful decision today to cancel the PRISM effort for the S-MODE Pilot campaign. We want to thank the PRISM team for all their hard work leading up to this point. We were looking forward to their arrival at Moffett Field and their participation in this collaborative science investigation. However, with the usable science window shrinking and with no guarantee that the G-III maintenance issues would be resolved before the end of the field campaign, it seemed wise to reserve our resources and look forward to PRISM flights in our next campaign in October 2022.
The loss of a state-of-the-art hyperspectral instrument is of course a huge blow to the biology/optics component of the S-MODE Pilot campaign. However, we are confident that our ocean biology team can refocus their efforts in the near term through the application of spaceborne measurements and with ocean color data collected by the MASS instrument on the Twin Otter.
Thank you,
Tom Farrar and Erin Czech
