Friends of MIRA,

We will be holding a MIRA session at the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS) meeting in Singapore, convened by Prof Sang-Woo Kim, Dr. Robyn Schofield, and Ms. Meliza Templonuevo. The AOGS meeting is July 30 to Aug 4, and abstracts are due on Feb 14 (soon!). Submission details can be found at https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.asiaoceania.org%2Faogs2023%2Fpublic.asp%3Fpage%3Dsubmit_abstracts.asp&data=05%7C01%7Cmira%40espo.nasa.gov%7Cb72fe2c383af4500e12d08dafaf58f9b%7C7005d45845be48ae8140d43da96dd17b%7C0%7C0%7C638098229833950040%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=8UZD9Q2iLzYOEA0mBrJXW%2Fc%2Bqs5v0z4Hysy0mVnjq1M%3D&reserved=0<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.asiaoceania.org%2Faogs2023%2Fpublic.asp%3Fpage%3Dsubmit_abstracts.asp&data=05%7C01%7Cmira%40espo.nasa.gov%7Cb72fe2c383af4500e12d08dafaf58f9b%7C7005d45845be48ae8140d43da96dd17b%7C0%7C0%7C638098229833950040%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=8UZD9Q2iLzYOEA0mBrJXW%2Fc%2Bqs5v0z4Hysy0mVnjq1M%3D&reserved=0>.

Note that this is an in-person meeting, so travel is required. Unlike AGU, authors are allowed to submit two abstracts. So if you are already attending, please consider submitting an abstract to the MIRA session as well.

Other highlights from the AOGS webpage:

  * Acceptance is on condition that at least one author attends the meeting to present the accepted abstract.
  * Author’s preferred presentation mode is usually honored though not guaranteed to be satisfied
  * Each paid fee covers 1 Presentation Only. If presenting a second accepted abstract; an additional fee is payable. Maximum total is 2 presentations.

Our goal for this meeting is to strengthen connections with scientists in that part of the world and to provide opportunities to make new connections. So please pass the word to your colleagues, especially those located in regions favorable for travel to Singapore. The MIRA newsgroup is open to all scientists everywhere, and people can join through the signature links below.

We hope to see you in Singapore!

Session Description
The Models, In situ, and Remote sensing of Aerosols (MIRA) working group is an interdisciplinary effort to connect aerosol scientists from around the world. We do this by encouraging collaborative projects that require expert knowledge from the three aerosol disciplines. One purpose of MIRA is to improve the utility of available measurements and encourage the invention of new measurements and techniques that improve measurement-model synergy. The global aspect of MIRA is important because many measurements – and the insight of those who make the measurements – are not easily available to scientists who could utilize them. More information about MIRA can be found at https://science.larc.nasa.gov/mira-wg/. For this session, we seek presentations that make use of data from two or more of the MIRA disciplines (i.e., models, in situ, and remote sensing). This encompasses all aspects of atmospheric aerosol studies, including (but not limited to) urban aerosols, biomass burning, dust, marine aerosols, and aerosol-cloud interactions. We especially encourage projects that seek additional collaboration
