Hi Everyone,
We hope you have been enjoying your summer. This message is to provide a few updates and prepare for reestablishing our monthly webex meetings.
1) First, we are glad to report that the RSSR Briefing in Korea was conducted on 19 July, and the report has been delivered to the Ministry of Environment (see attached picture). The briefing was well attended by officials from the Ministry, NIER, and US Embassy, as well as interest groups, the press, and members of the KORUS-AQ Science Team. There were many insightful questions during the Q&A that give us confidence the information will prove useful. The report was a key deliverable that highlights some of the issues that we hope to back up with deeper analysis and better quantification as we go forward. A copy of the final report in both Korean and English are available from the main KORUS-AQ website (https://espo.nasa.gov/home/korus-aq) as well as the file sharing site on the data archive.
2) Please remember to get your AGU abstracts submitted by the 2 August deadline. While we are sponsoring a session specifically designed for KORUS-AQ (A074. Observational studies of East Asian air quality: Constraints on emissions, chemistry, and transport), some of you may also consider whether your abstract can fit into other sessions. Spreading our contributions across multiple sessions will increase our visibility at the meeting.
3) The AOGS meeting in Singapore will be the first international conference where KORUS-AQ results will be presented. Our oral session will convene on Thursday, 10 August with posters the previous day.
4) Updated versions of the DC8 merges (revision R3) are now available on the archive (https://www-air.larc.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/ArcView/korusaq?MERGE=1). These merges incorporate PUBLICLY AVAILABLE data available as of July 24, 2017. There are many new and updated datasets in this merge, and some variable names have changed slightly. Users are strongly encouraged to consult the readme for more detailed information about the merges, including comments/changelogs for all the merges so far, a list of variables included in the current merge and their sources, and a list of all files used for the current merge.
Note: these merges only contain data from publicly available files, and therefore are available to the public also. This means that these merges (unlike revision R2 merges) are suitable for presentations, publications, etc.
Please contact Michael Shook (michael.shook at nasa.gov<mailto:michael.shook at nasa.gov>) if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions.
5) We will reinitiate monthly webex meetings in September (details will be sent later). Now that logistics are no longer a priority, these meetings will focus more on science. Please consider what you might be able to share. We are not looking for well-developed presentations, rather we hope to see just a few slides on current progress in your analyses. This will be very helpful as we prepare for the AGU meeting.
We are all very busy, so please keep KORUS-AQ on your priority list.
KORUS-AQ Leadership Team
