Hi Mission Scientists,
SCHEDULE: Below is the schedule for the 3 “on-duty” mission scientists for the dry runs based on the doodle poll. Let us know if this doesn't work for you and we will adjust. Gerry/Ian, you didn’t fill out the doodle poll so I assigned you dates. If those dates don’t work, try to switch. If that doesn’t work, let me know.
Nov 08/09: Tim Lang, Andy Heymsfield, Sandra Yuter
Nov 10/11: Adrian Loftus, Brian Colle, Gerry Heymsfield
Nov 15/16: John Yorks, Matt Miller, Steve Guimond
Nov 17/18 Bob Rauber, Rachael Kroodsma, Ian Adams
PURPOSE: A reminder about our purpose for this dry run:
* Train new forecasters
* Train new mission scientists
* Get experience with the updated flight planning software
* Gear up for the next deployment
ASSUMPTIONS: We will be assuming the following:
* The airport conditions and duty cycles are such that we can fly wherever and whenever we want.
* We're not going to be concerned with submitting flight plans 48 hours in advance. We told the forecasters to pick a convenient set of model runs to use (i.e. we really aren't testing model verification, etc.).
SOFTWARE: You can download the newest update of the fight planning software here: https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgithub.com%2Fsamuelleblanc%2Ffp%2Freleases%2Ftag%2Fv1.27&data=04%7C01%7Cimpacts-mission-scientists%40espo.nasa.gov%7Ca197b43ff6eb4d2eae2408d99d4497df%7C7005d45845be48ae8140d43da96dd17b%7C0%7C0%7C637713740207830117%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=4lqS82KzXgA%2FD8ALDWZ3AVXJnisGmm5hkVh3r5Qc6DE%3D&reserved=0<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgithub.com%2Fsamuelleblanc%2Ffp%2Freleases%2Ftag%2Fv1.27&data=04%7C01%7Cimpacts-mission-scientists%40espo.nasa.gov%7Ca197b43ff6eb4d2eae2408d99d4497df%7C7005d45845be48ae8140d43da96dd17b%7C0%7C0%7C637713740207830117%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=4lqS82KzXgA%2FD8ALDWZ3AVXJnisGmm5hkVh3r5Qc6DE%3D&reserved=0>. Look for the links to the .zip files (either windows or macOS). The mac version has all the same new features as the PC version, but has only been tested with Catalina (V 10.15.7). Since Sam don't have software signing figured out yet, you will have to enable them in your firewall. He working on a better method for distribution, but not there yet.
INSTRUCTIONS: Just a reminder that the format/instructions for these dry runs are as follows:
Day 1 - 12 ET/09 PT: “On-duty” forecasters provide the forecast (24-hours before storm) in the IMPACTS format to the 3 “on-duty” MS and anyone else who calls in
Day 1 - 01 ET/10 PT: “On-duty” MS discuss potential flight plans w/ forecaster on the line to answer questions (off-duty folks can listen in, but try not to interrupt the on-duty folks)
Day 1 – After Brief: “On-duty” MS draw up flight plans using flight planning software. Additional telecons/email correspondence as needed.
Day 2 - 12 ET/09 PT: “On-duty” MS present flight plans to anyone on the line
Day 2 - 01 ET/10 PT: “On-duty” forecasters present how the event actually unfolded
Please let us know if you have any questions. Calendar invites will be forthcoming. Thanks!
John and Lynn
