Dear FIREX-AQ Team -
In response to the delay in the deployment of many to the field for DC8 test flights, the workshop on Tuesday will not be remotely accessible. A second workshop, including both in-person and remote attendance, will be scheduled as soon as possible.
If you are in Palmdale on Tuesday, please attend that scheduled session rather than waiting; this will help reduce the size of the next workshops. I will see you there.
Best,
Shuka

> Dear FIREX-AQ Team –
>
> We will have a workshop titled "Improving Our Work Climate and Preventing Harassment" this Tuesday 6/18 at 2-4 PM PDT. It is no coincidence that this event is scheduled when FIREX-AQ is really ramping up with DC8 test-flights (and the potential to sample a prescribed burn!) on the radar, as this activity is part of our preparations to ensure excellent science enabled in part by optimal working/thinking conditions for the entire team. Thank you for actively supporting this goal.

> We expect the default to be participation in the workshop by all involved with FIREX-AQ. Response rate to the survey already exceeds typical rates ... but we can still do much better. If you haven’t done the survey yet, please take the few minutes to do so – in addition to its intrinsic value for the research being carried out as part of AdvanceGeo, the survey will spark topics for discussion that I am sure will carry forward into next week’s session. Brittany Bloodhart has sent out links to the questionnaire that you should be able to find in your email (potentially in a spam folder; her last email was sent on June 10 with the subject line: “Reminder: FIREX-AQ Survey”).

> Those in Palmdale for the DC8 deployment should attend in person at the AFRC. To participate online, use the link at the bottom of this email. Some (none of us here at Boulder NOAA who have tested the system) may need to download zoom from:

> Another option is to join by phone and simply listen in (dial-in numbers below).

> The online webinar will include slides, and you will be able to hear Dr. Meredith Hastings while she is presenting. You will be able to ask questions via the chat or by unmuting yourself. There will be 3 online facilitators to help answer/address/highlight questions and comments via the chat. Part of the workshop consists of discussions in small groups; during this time, online facilitators will create breakout “rooms” where you can participate in smaller groups to ask questions, etc.
>
> For those who are unable to join us live, the workshop will be recorded for later viewing and reference. Please let me know if you have any questions in advance of the workshop.

> "Improving Our Work Climate and Preventing Harassment"
>
> The workshop is dedicated to raising awareness of different types of harassment and how they are experienced; discussing initiatives to address harassment and bullying as research misconduct; presenting practical strategies for reducing instances of harassment and bullying and for protecting and supporting its targets; and providing resources to promote creation of a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment. This workshop will 1) provide tools and resources for participants to recognize the factors that contribute to working climate; 2) develop bystander intervention strategies for all participants to actively tackle instances of harassment and bullying; and 3) provide resources that can contribute to action plans that are proactive, preventative and promote cultural change in office, laboratory, and field settings. The workshop will include: ~60 minutes presentation to raise awareness of the problem and present strategies for preventing and/or tackling harassment via bystander intervention; followed by ~60 minutes practice of bystander intervention via case studies and discussion.
