Dear all,
While we have many seasoned oceanographers on our cruise, we also have newer folks, and I have been getting some questions about clothes/ personal stuff to bring, so figured I’d share a few suggestions with you all. If others have advice please feel free to chime in.
Weather-You can expect air temps of 15 deg C in August/Sept. (59 deg F). It is likely to be cloudy much of the time, sometimes drizzly/rainy too.
Wind from a few knots to ~20. Ocean Weather Station Papa if you want to play around with the data:

A few things to get you started:
1. Steel-toed rubber boots for working on deck
2. Water proof pants and jacket for working on deck
3. Consider waterproof gloves too
4. Layers – it can feel chilly up there even in August. (bring a fleece, warm jacket, but also might want shorts for inside)
5. Music/ pod casts For working in the lab.
6. Good books/e-reader
7. Exercise clothes- I believe the Revelle still has a small workout/weight room. Also I sometimes jump rope on deck, or stretch, do laps around the deck. Good to have something with you. (consider bathing suit too, never know, could get a sunny afternoon)
8. Good pair of sunglasses- polarized are nice for being on water/ at sea, make sure they have croakies/lanyard
9. Sunscreen, lip balm
10. Hats (one with visor and a beanie)
11. Chocolate, gum, or other goodies to have and to share
12. Coffee and a French press or something- if you are picky- the ship’s coffee is not coffee house coffee...
13. A personal refillable water bottle and a sturdy mug- staying hydrated at sea is best seasickness prevention
14. Seasickness medicine if you are prone- especially at beginning of cruise as you get your sea legs
Matt, Matt, and Brendon if you have anything Revelle-specific let us know!
Cheers,
Deb
