Hi everyone,

We circulated an email to the current Cloud WG participants outlining next steps. It occurred to us that people's interest/focus may have evolved a bit since the initial sign up and new ARCSIX participants may also want to participate. If there are any cloud afficionados silently waiting in the wings, please join the group! (If not interested in clouds, no need to read further...)

To join the group send an email to arcsix-wg-cp-join at espo.nasa.gov<mailto:arcsix-wg-cp-join at espo.nasa.gov>

For reference, the email circulated to the Cloud WG is included below, for those in the process of joining.

Thanks,

Ewan, Amy, Paquita

Cloud Working Group Members,

As you know, we are beginning to reintegrate the working groups (WG) now that the campaign phase is complete (although we are very aware that instrument teams are fully engaged with calibrations and data QC).

The eventual goals of the WG will be to discuss, and work on, big picture topics related to Arctic clouds and foster collaboration amongst data analysis and modeling efforts. As a prerequisite, we hope to use the next 3 months (while data processing is in full flow) for the following (non-exhaustive list):

  1. What did we actually get in terms of data sampling, cloud conditions, multi-aircraft synergy etc.?
  2. Can we identify/shortlist "Golden Day" case studies that can be used for detailed modelling and showcasing the multi-instrument/multi-platform cloud datasets?
  3. Along the same lines: earmark 1-2 flights (or, even better, flight segments) that will help support the cloud section of the planned BAMS article
  4. Did we achieve any airmass resampling that could support Lagrangian-style analyses and/or detailed modeling?

Of course, the above list is not meant to curtail discussion about any new and interesting findings! In fact, as we work to unpack the data, hopefully we can use the WG email list and Google folder as a way to exchange notes. Over the next few weeks we are going to be adding material to the Cloud WG folder<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Furldefense.com%2Fv3%2F__https%3A%2F%2Fdrive.google.com%2Fdrive%2Ffolders%2F1nGClWJM_1DYJqA8DK8d9wI3I5B1cT-DM__%3B!!KVu0SnhVq1hAFvslES2Y!IQRWHPaM8jAGwbGpvvFGMOSPsm7eVsMMC_vwJ6KcEYQxEoNxAH4nLHrigszb_UZ55IlG1kn2ssx6nqBFNmOckOav%24&data=05%7C02%7CArcsix%40espo.nasa.gov%7C185a762628904a068ff808dcf361f7e4%7C7005d45845be48ae8140d43da96dd17b%7C0%7C0%7C638652849298049923%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=B4kYEnTGkTHlX7H%2BOpWZ9vSMmxGloawRSMsd9Q%2F887I%3D&reserved=0> and a starting point will be a summary table that we can start to populate initially with metadata but also with preliminary summary statistics. For info, the flight reports from the P3 and G3 can be found here<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Furldefense.com%2Fv3%2F__https%3A%2F%2Fdrive.google.com%2Fdrive%2Ffolders%2F13SUU4xWYCiHh2cG8CyaGhMrMoc4O8VlP__%3B!!KVu0SnhVq1hAFvslES2Y!IQRWHPaM8jAGwbGpvvFGMOSPsm7eVsMMC_vwJ6KcEYQxEoNxAH4nLHrigszb_UZ55IlG1kn2ssx6nqBFNjkOh3r3%24&data=05%7C02%7CArcsix%40espo.nasa.gov%7C185a762628904a068ff808dcf361f7e4%7C7005d45845be48ae8140d43da96dd17b%7C0%7C0%7C638652849298206238%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=9aa%2BXWZ6rRMJTxbkK%2BcyR5gNp1bLvtuMQSuiEYJkX%2FQ%3D&reserved=0>.

We are tentatively looking to hold a tag-up telecon on Tuesday November 12 at 1PM EST followed by an in-person discussion at AGU (December 9-13, timings TBD) and an in person discussion at AMS (January 12-16, timings TBD).

To help with planning these meetings, can you please respond to this email indicating if (a) the suggested time for the telecon is good or not and (b) if you are planning to attend AGU and/or AMS. Otherwise we can resort to using a poll for scheduling. As we progress, we can make a judgement on adjusting the frequency and format of tag-up meetings.

Thanks,

Ewan, Amy, Paquita
