Subject: [Arcsix] Final ARCSIX Part 1 Summary

ARCSIX Team-

Congratulations on an AMAZING first deployment, I hope you're all as pleased as I am with how everything went!

On Thursday 13 June we flew our 10th and final science flight, flying 7.5 hours and 1955 miles. We all had a hard earned weekend "off" while preparing for the P-3 and C-130 to return to WFF.

Monday 17 June (yesterday), the P-3 and C-130 took off within minutes of each other- the P-3 headed to Bangor, Maine to clear customs and let a few folks disembark for connecting flights to wherever home is. The C-130 followed suit, traveling through Burlington, Vermont.

The P-3 landed about 1530 yesterday followed by the C-130 around 1700- we were able to unload both aircraft and get them stowed in the hangar before ensuring everyone either had their personal vehicle or a ride to get wherever they needed to be.

The final flight summary is below- with the test flights, transits, and 10 successful science flights, ARCSIX has used almost exactly half of the approved flight hours:

Thank you all for your incredible, unwavering support for this mission. Please enjoy your summer break, I'm already looking forward to round 2!

Have a nice evening,

Kelly

Subject: ARCSIX Mission Update for Tuesday 11 June

Hello, everyone-

Yesterday (Monday 10 June) was a short flight due to concerns about weather developing through the day at the airfield. Even landing early, they were able to complete ARCSIX Science Flight #8- they took off at 0804 and landed at 1300 for a total of 4.9 hours and 1104 miles flown.

As we approach the end of a wildly successful first deployment, we have completed 64.9 flight hours out of 188.8:
[cid:image048.jpg at 01DAC222.81441410]

On Saturday the ARCSIX team hosted an open house with both aircraft on display as well as some instrument teams showcasing their spare instruments or science data on their computers. We didn't have anyone at the door counting, but if I had to guess I would say at least 40-50 people showed up over the course of the morning.

It's been a grueling operational schedule, but the teams are pushing through like absolute champs- the aircraft and the instruments are holding up well and we're getting through the first ARCSIX deployment on an awesome schedule!

We are planning Science Flight #7 tomorrow, with the same takeoff and landing schedule we've had for the last week.

Updates to follow for tomorrow!

At the post flight debrief it was reported that the adjustments Chris Youngblood was able to make to the electrical system the day before worked perfectly, no power issues arose during the flight.

We are now just past the halfway point for the first deployment so I wanted to include the current flight hour summary:

Today is Science Flight #6 and we are hopeful to complete #7 tomorrow before taking a hard earned break for the weekend. The teams will host an open house on Saturday here in the hangar for anyone on base that's interested in what we're doing, ESPO has been coordinating the majority of it but I offered to be on hand to help out and show people around.

Hello, ARCSIX Team-

Today was another amazing ARCSIX day, science flight #4 for the P-3 and science flight #3 for the G-III are in the books!

The P-3 ended up taking off at 0750L and landing at 1505 for a total of 7.3 flight hours and 1900 miles flown.

Despite some icing and some instrument issues, science leadership is extremely pleased that the P-3 flew today and collected the data they did.

Tomorrow will be a no fly work day with access and power on the plane 0800-1630 for instrument teams.

Thank you and have a wonderful evening!

Subject: ARCSIX Mission Update for Friday 31 May and Monday 3 June

Good morning!

My apologies for the late update, I didn't realize until this morning that my Friday email got stuck in my outbox.

On Friday 31 May the P-3 completed her third successful ARCSIX science flight. After a short delay to accommodate a maintenance action, the plane took off at 0925 local and landed at 1525 for a total of 6 flight hours and 1827 miles flown.

[cid:image064.jpg at 01DAC222.81441410]
[cid:image065.jpg at 01DAC222.81441410]

At debrief it was revealed that it was overall an extremely successful flight and our scientists were very happy with the data they were able to collect!

That being said, several science teams reported instrument issues and requested weekend access and power, so we staggered the ground crew to accommodate their needs. It was a successful effort, as one instrument that was completely inoperable was fixed and ready to fly as of mid-morning on Sunday. The others made progress and were operational enough to participate in today's Science Flight #4.

After the 0415 go/no go message this morning, we had access and power on the plane for instrument teams (thank you, Donnie!), I conducted the pre-flight flight safety briefings for two new P-3 flyers and the plane was towed out for fueling and experimenter access about 0640. Take off for Science Flight #4 was right around 0800, I'll provide more details at today's COB update.
