All,
The possibility of going home early has been extensively discussed. After consultation with Science Leadership, Kelly, Dan, and Stevie, we’ve come to the following conclusions:

  * Since we decided No-Go for today, we will consider science flights tomorrow, Thursday and possibly Friday, thus any plane leaving on Thursday will not be possible.
  * If we have science flights Thursday or decide that Thursday and Friday are No-Go for science flights, then the G-III is free to leave whenever they are ready, but not on Saturday or Sunday.
  * If we have science flights Thursday or decide that Thursday and Friday are No-Go for science flights, then the P-3 is free to leave whenever they are ready, but not on Saturday or Sunday; keep in mind, getting the P-3 ready to head back will require considerable effort including leaving Hangar 8 in a useable condition should it be needed during the hiatus between the ARCSIX spring and summer deployments.
  * The C-130 will not be able to leave before Monday for a number of reasons: crew rest for the pilots will make leaving on Friday difficult if not impossible; the aircrew will have to check out the plane; equipment and luggage to go back will have to be palletized and loaded; Hangar 8 will have to be left in a useable condition should it be needed during the hiatus between the ARCSIX spring and summer deployments; it is unreasonable to expect all of these tasks can be completed by Friday morning.

I recognize we have been in the field for a while and we want to get home. However, the 1 to 2 days we would get back early does not justify the unavoidable pressure we would put on our logistics people and the added expense associated with the change in schedule.

I appreciate your dedication and hard work. The first deployment of ARCSIX has been an unqualified success. We should all take pride in what has been accomplished.

Be well.

Hal Maring
