Subject: [All] FW: IT Notice: Cisco Secure Client VPN Software Will Be Updated Today - July 17, 2024

Hi all,

An email was sent out this morning regarding an update to our VPN client that will occur this evening at 6 PM PDT. We are moving from Cisco AnyConnect version 4.10.07061 to Cisco Secure Client version 5.1.3.62 so when you try to connect tomorrow, please do not be surprised to find you may need to search for the new application.

According to the instructions, if your machine is powered on and connected to the internet, the update should occur without need for any user input unless actively using the VPN when it drops at 6 PM. The instructions claim we can install the update preemptively from Self Service, but it does not yet seem to be available; I suspect it will be made available closer to the scheduled update time.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Kind Regards,

Sam

SUBJECT: IT Notice: Cisco Secure Client replacing Cisco AnyConnect Secure VPN – July 17, 2024

WHAT IS THE IMPACT?

Today at 6 PM Pacific/ 9 PM Eastern time, Cisco Secure Client version 5.1.3.62 will be installed. Secure Client will be the new software you use to connect to NASA’s Virtual Private Network (VPN), replacing Cisco AnyConnect.

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED?

The update will start at 6 PM Pacific Time. Ensure computer is powered on and connected to the Internet (VPN connection is not required).

  * If you are connected to the NASA VPN, you will be prompted to close Cisco AnyConnect and any other applications that need to be closed for the update to proceed. Once you click OK, the applications listed in the prompt will close automatically, and your computer will be disconnected from VPN. You will receive a prompt confirming that the VPN service has been stopped.
  * If you are not connected to the NASA VPN, the update will install silently.
  * Cisco Secure Client VPN v5.1.3.62 can be installed via Self Service if you prefer to update it before automatic deployment.

To reconnect to VPN the first time, you will need to manually launch Secure Client from Applications -> Cisco -> Cisco Secure Client. For easier access in the future, you can drag Cisco Secure Client to your Dock.

The Agency has prepared a more detailed use guide for the Cisco Secure Client migration, which you can find here<https://sharepoint.msfc.nasa.gov/sites/ocio/EUSO/EUSO-Teaming-Site/mosm/_layouts/15/WopiFrame.aspx?sourcedoc=%7BA7782C27-14D9-403C-B11D-2D601CE5B958%7D&file=Cisco%20Secure%20Client%20VPN%20Software%20Update.docx&action=default>.
