All,
Yesterday, Nov 26, the LaRC G-III flew the last BioSCape science flight. The deployment ended strong, with an almost 5-hour flight over the Cape Point peninsula. Both aircraft have flown more than the planned 100h hours of science flights.
With the departure of the NASA G-III, which started the transit back home, we concluded the flight operations of the BioSCape project. Over the next few days, Quincy, Michael, and I will pack the equipment and have it picked up, pay the last bill, and make our way back home. We moved our flights earlier, now departing Friday, Dec 1st, and likely will stick with this date because the flights are full (Quincy got stuck in a middle seat from Cape Town to Washington.)
Everyone in the BioSCape team is elated with how this field campaign went. The science team estimates they have an unprecedented set of data and are excited to see the results of the data analysis. Everyone is safe. We had a couple of COVID cases and food-borne illnesses; however, nothing serious, and most everyone enjoyed some of the attractions Cape Town offers.
Take care, everyone.
