Our discussion today centered around a few aspects of field management that have been recent topics for the AEROMMA/STAQS team, who are doing an excellent job prepping for the first science flights of the “Urban Studies” phase of the mission. Please feel free to reply to this thread and add to these notes with your own experiences!
* PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) - Covers a wide range of equipment and activities, but ESPO has the responsibility to ensure that scientists who are handling gasses and cryogens are donning the proper PPE.
* Photography - ESPO polices any airfield policies regarding photography. General rule of thumb is don’t take photos toward the flight line, but there may also be specific instructions depending on the field.
* Personnel movement - Make sure that mission participants are obeying all airfield rule regarding movement outside of the hangar and on the flightline (e.g., reflective vests, allowable distance from hangar, direct routes to the aircraft on the flight line, etc.)
* If any violation needs to be handled immediately (e.g., a person in a restricted area), handle it directly and without haste. It is ESPO’s responsibility to manage the entire mission team, and even a single major security/safety violation on an airfield could result in the abrupt end of a mission.
Thank you,
Erin Czech
