Subject: [BAERI] [All] EXPORTS Update from the Field
Hi all,
It’s been a very busy week here in Southampton, but things are going quite well.
We kicked off the week by visiting the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) to get familiar with our base of operations for the EXPORTS demobilization and the days ahead as we pack and send equipment back to various locations.
On Tuesday, the RRS James Cook and the RRS Discovery returned to NOC. The crew and science teams could not “break their bubbles” from the ship, and security was tight. Scientists for the most part did not leave the ship until they were done packing, departing the vessel with the intent to not return. Of course, we could not board either vessel. Some science team members disembarked on Tuesday, but most did so on Wednesday.
Once the demobilization began, we quickly had more equipment to sort than we had space, but we’re making process day-by-day, and NOC has been great to work with. We’ve completely filled the warehouse they’ve loaned to us to work in, as well as about eight 20’ containers, and a couple of NOC containers.
Aside from sorting and packing equipment, Quincy has been busy working to get more samples and dry shippers than I can count shipped out to where they need to go.
Today, we packed and loaded one of the containers bound for Ames. One down, several more to go!
