Hi Everyone,

It has been one week since the start of CPEX-AW Integration. The DAWN team arrived about three weeks ago to start instrument calibration checks from their trailer. The HALO and APR-3 teams arrived on Monday without much trouble. On Tuesday we had the first rack (APR-3) installed on the DC-8 since the FIREX campaign, which was a big milestone for the DC-8 team. APR-3 needed additional pieces manufactured so that they could install their pressure box but there was a bit of a hiccup during production, and they were short one piece, causing a minor delay in upload. HALO has also been waiting on fabrication and will hopefully make more progress next week.

Overall, the flow of upload has been steady. The teams seem like they are in high spirits and have a “get down to business” attitude…in a good way. I think the COVID year has made everyone appreciate time in the field and getting back to science.

In terms of COVID-19 precautions, the scientists have decided (for the most part) to continue wearing masks while at AFRC and it is probably due to the rise in the Delta variant cases.

Next week we have more folks joining us in Palmdale as part of the staged integration approach. On Monday there is a planned DC-8 Egress Training for participants flying to St. Croix. An alternate training session will be arranged at a later date.

Today Chuck brought ice cream, as part of a joke that all late comers to our standing meeting must bring ice cream, and I brought in donuts to celebrate our first week of integration /my last day. I want to thank all of ESPO for being such an amazing team. You guys have made a huge impact on me, and I am happy that I have made some amazing friends!! Don’t be a stranger 😊

And Vidal…you’ve got this dude!!!

Cheers,
Katie
