Subject:Reminder: Cisco Unity Voice Mailbox PIN Policy and User Defined Transfer Rule Updates
Background:Maintaining a robust security posture is essential for all NASA applications, and your Cisco Unity Voice Mailbox is no exception. A weak voicemail PIN with fewer than eight digits could allow unauthorized access to, and control of, your voice mailbox.Cyber criminals are getting more clever and are now using phishing attacks to access voicemail. To mitigate these threats, NASA is implementing mandatory voice mailbox PIN updates with strengthened PIN requirements.
What’s Happening:In order to further strengthen NASA’s cybersecurity posture, you will be automatically prompted to set a new voice mailbox PIN with a minimum of 8 digits. If you do not login to your voice mailbox before July 20, 2020 to update your PIN, you will be locked out of your voicemail and will need to contact the Enterprise Service Desk (ESD) in order to regain access.
Action Required:To access your voice mailbox and update your PIN from your NASA desk phone or Cisco Jabber:
>From your desk phone, press the message key, enter your current PIN followed by #. Follow the prompts to enter your new PIN.
>From Cisco Jabber, click the voicemail icon in the sidebar, click the “Call Voicemail” link, enter your current PIN followed by #. Follow the prompts to enter your new PIN.
To access your voice mailbox and update your PIN from your home or mobile phone:
Call your Center or facility voicemail access number, enter your ID (your extension number) when prompted, or press * then enter your ID followed by #, then enter your current PIN followed by #. Follow the prompts to enter your new PIN.
PIN Policy: The new PIN policy includes the following rules:
The PIN must be a minimum of 8 digits.
The PIN cannot match the alphanumeric representation of your first or last name.
The PIN cannot contain your primary or alternate extension numbers, or those numbers in reverse.
The PIN cannot contain groups of repeated digits, ex. “40854085” or “12341234”.
The PIN cannot contain only two different digits, ex. “12121212”.
A digit cannot be used more than two times consecutively, ex. “28883332”.
The PIN cannot be an ascending or descending group of digits, ex. “01234567” or “98765432”.
The PIN cannot contain a group of digits that are dialed in a vertical, horizontal, or diagonal line on a phone keypad, ex. “159”, “159730”, “147”, “147365”, “123” or “123597”.
User-definable voice mailbox transfer rules, allowing calls from an Automated-Attendant, are disabled. This change will not affect call forwarding from your NASA extension(s) to a different destination within NASA or outside of NASA.
