Subject: Firefox Add-ons Issue - Info & Upcoming Fix

Good afternoon,

FYI, if you use Firefox, have add-ons installed, and noticed they are broken/missing, Mozilla is recommending<https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2019/05/04/update-regarding-add-ons-in-firefox/> that you do NOT try to delete/disable/enable/re-install those add-ons or change anything because they’re pushing a fix in a way that requires no active steps on the user’s part to get things back to a working state once applied.

“Please note: The fix does not apply to Firefox ESR or Firefox for Android. We’re working on releasing a fix for both, and will provide updates here and on social media.”
Many users at NASA use Firefox ESR. You can tell if you are one of those people by going to the “hamburger”/three lines menu in the upper right > Help > Troubleshooting Information > under Application Basics, look for “Update Channel,” the 5th item down. If you have ESR, it will say esr.

To ensure you get the fix:

  1. Go to the “hamburger”/three lines menu in the upper right
  2. Preferences
  3. Privacy and Security (left)
  4. Scroll down to Firefox Data Collection and Use
  5. Ensure Allow Firefox to install and run studies is turned on (if you prefer it is off, you can turn it back off after the fix applies to your Firefox)

It may take up to 6 hours for the Study fix to be applied. You can check if it has been by

  1. typing about:studies in the Firefox URL bar (as if going to a website)
  2. looking to see that hotfix-update-xpi-signing-intermediate-bug-1548973 shows up under Active or Completed Studies
