Hi All,
My immediate response to this request is strongly negative. Even if we wanted to do this task (and there are reasons against that, e.g. publishing results based on unvalidated data), we would surely publish our own ESSD paper with AGAGE authors.
Cheers,
Ron

Hi AGAGE Steering Committee (cc, Luke),

We’ve been asked by Piers Forster et al. if we could provide emissions and global mole fractions for the upcoming Indicators of Global Climate Change paper: https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fessd.copernicus.org%2Farticles%2F16%2F2625%2F2024%2Fessd-16-2625-2024-discussion.html&data=05%7C02%7Cagage-sc%40espo.nasa.gov%7Cbb11dafb498c47ad519608dcd988f1ab%7C7005d45845be48ae8140d43da96dd17b%7C0%7C0%7C638624429402328207%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=FTmrw5P2M1gFGqQbX%2Fhd7%2BJUI4G8z1TjTxQxuZmNJRM%3D&reserved=0. The underlying data would (presumably) go into their archive of data sources in some form, e.g.: https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgithub.com%2FClimateIndicator%2Fdata%2Ftree%2Fmain%2Fdata%2Fgreenhouse_gas_concentrations&data=05%7C02%7Cagage-sc%40espo.nasa.gov%7Cbb11dafb498c47ad519608dcd988f1ab%7C7005d45845be48ae8140d43da96dd17b%7C0%7C0%7C638624429402953225%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=L4x43rYiFso%2Bw1KwY0cyVxmq5OEqj4l0gIVCyQZBhbE%3D&reserved=0. I believe this information currently comes from NOAA.

We’re asking for clarification, but it seems likely that they would like estimates through 2024 by early 2025.

I suggest we discuss at the next SC meeting and then at the AGAGE meeting before going back to them. It’s an issue that is coming up with increasing frequency, so I think we should come up with a plan for this kind of request, whether or not we participate in this update.

Cheers,

Matt
