A089:
Remote Sensing of CH4 and CO2 from Space: The Advancing Observing System
Submit an Abstract to this Session<https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm17/a/papers/index.cgi?sessionid=24061>
Session ID#: 24061
Session Description:
This session explores the impact of remote sensing observations of atmospheric methane, carbon dioxide, and related geophysical quantities on the understanding of processes driving variability in emissions and uptake at local, regional, and global scales. The existing greenhouse-gas satellites GOSAT and OCO-2 satellite have been joined by TanSat and TROPOMI. With the availability of these data and other existing (e.g., SCIAMACHY, GOSAT, TES, AIRS, IASI) space-based sensors, together with an expanding range of in-situ observational efforts, we are entering an age of great opportunity for fundamental breakthroughs. However, many scientific, technical, and computational challenges remain if we are to fully exploit these measurements. We call for submissions of analysis of existing datasets, outlining innovative measurement approaches, advances in retrieval algorithms, development of gridded fields, and data analysis / modeling tools that target these new and existing observations.
