Purpose of Flight:Check
Comments:This flight was for team proficiency and to check out the Galileo HSI. This was also the first flight operation for our new GCS operator, Bruce Storms. Takeoff was normal and the aircraft was handed off to the GCS operator who tasked the aircraft to fly patterns over the canal to exercise the HSI. The autopilot appeared to command much greater throttle variations which was thought to be a result of an upgrade to the firmware and autopilot software since the last flight (Note: the versions have been reverted back to the prior versions for the next flight at Surprise Valley). Norcal Approach verified the correct operation of our Mode C altitude encoding transponder. After landing, crack initiation was found on the engine thrust link. This is the second thrust link of this type to exhibit this failure mode. The team already has a redesigned thrust link available and the Airworthiness and Flight Readiness Boards have approved it for the next flight.
