Comments:RF02, Antarctic research flight, Thwaites area. Today's mission was a successful completion of the baseline priority Thwaites A line. Despite conflicting weather forecasts the line turned out to be clear and excellent for data collection for both LVIS and DMS. We also collected a significant amount of sea ice data over the Bellingshausen Sea during the transit making for an overall successful day. A ramp pass was conducted, though lighting conditions may have been sub-optimal for DMS. We may attempt a ramp pass for DMS during a short cal flight on a down day if time allows. (Nathan Kurtz)

OIB
Mission Summary:

OIB Ant2015 Sea and land ice, Flight2 9/24/15

LVIS and DMS installed on the GV.

Target Area: Thwaites glacier, with sea ice and land ice data collected en route

Sea ice data collected on transits in Bellingshausen. Clear conditions encountered south of ~65.8S, though some bands of clouds present. Both instruments operated normally.

Land ice data collected from Abbott area to Thwaites, including over PIG tongue on transits.  Thwaites data collection repeated and extended existing OIB grid lines over Thwaites glacier (low altitute ThwaitesA plan). No data loss due to clouds over land.
Both LVIS and DMS operated normally

Calibration manuevers performed during flight and prior to landing at Punta Arenas.

Data collected:
DMS - 30G
LVIS - 200G
