Shipments to AFRC

Instrument Teams are responsible for shipping from their home institutions to Building 703 at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center.

Large Items and Hazardous Items please do the following:
Please clearly label each box with the following information:

  • DCOTSS
  • Instrument name
  • PI's name and contact phone number
Please pack any fragile or sensitive equipment in hard shell cases with plenty of cushioning and avoid shipping loose items whenever possible. 

Before you ship your items to AFRC, please email Kevin Kraft with the arrival date.

Small Non-hazardous Items:
If you are shipping a smaller, non-hazardous item, please ship it directly to yourself or your colleague at the hotel.  This will be a much faster process than shipping the item to the hangar due to processing and COVID-19 procedures.

Storage at AFRC

After integration for your group, you are welcome to leave your equipment in designated areas in Bldg. 703. There will be an area for equipment that can be stored in Palmdale until de-integration, and a separate staging area for cargo that needs to be shipped from Palmdale to Salina. 

 

Shipping Dates

The truck departure/arrival schedule for each location is as follows:  
Truck departure from Palmdale – 5/18/2022
Equipment available in Salina – 5/20/2022
Truck departure from Salina – 7/1/2022
Equipment available in Palmdale – 7/5/2022

Please email Sommer Nicholas with an estimate of the amount of cargo you plan to ship. 

 

Shipments Directly to Salina

Prior to shipping items from your home institution directly to Salina, KS, please mail Shelli Swanson at shellis@salair.org, with the arrival date, amount of equipment you plan to ship, and if there are any hazardous materials included in the shipment. 

If you need to ship directly from your home institution to Salina and it needs to arrive BEFORE May 18, 2022, please ship to:

​Dangerous Goods

If you need hazardous materials shipped from AFRC to Salina, please complete this manifest with as much detail as possible, and send it to Sommer Nicholas.

Please also provide the SDS’ (Safety Data Sheets) for all hazardous material being shipped along with the completed manifest.

Some sample text in red font is included in the manifest as example entries. If your team uses specialty calibration gases, please be sure to list each cylinder that needs to be transported from Palmdale to Salina.
 
Much of the required information will be listed on the hazmat packaging/cylinders. It is best if hazmat is packed and labeled in the manufacturer’s original packaging.
