Updates:
  • M/V Bold Horizon departed from Newport at ~1330 and she is now en route to the operations area. Estimated arrival to the ops area is late Sunday with science ops likely starting Monday.
  • Mission science has begun receiving real time data from Saildrones, which came online today.
  • The B200 is on track to conduct its first science flight of S-MODE IOP-1 tomorrow, while the Twin Otter and G-III will fly science no earlier than Tuesday.

Updates:
  • The B200 took off for its first flight today, but surface winds were below the limit of detection for DopplerScatt and the flight was called back. The next DopplerScatt flight is now scheduled for Monday.
  • The Bold Horizon (BH) is on schedule to arrive at the ops area tomorrow. The science party plans to retrieve a malfunctioning Seaglider (SG180), deploy a replacement Seaglider (SG248) and Wave Glider (WHOI-ASL22), and do a calibration CTD cast (time permitting).
  • WHOI-ASL32 will head northeast from its current position to fill in a gap in the surface density map of the ops area.

  • 0700:  Preflight briefing for B200 and G-III
  • 0800:  B200 SF3 takeoff
  • ~1000:  G-III SF1 takeoff (conditions permitting)
  • ~1200:  Twin Otter SF1 takeoff (conditions permitting)
  • ~1300:  B200 SF4 takeoff (conditions permitting)

Ship and in situ plan:

  • Coordinated ship surveys with aircraft
  • Float recoveries and redeployment
  • Ship surveys near floats
  • Wave Gliders and Saildrones repeat frontal patterns

  • The B200/DopplerScatt flew their second science flight of the campaign today.
  • The Bold Horizon team deployed surface drifters, deployed and calibrated Lagrangian Floats, and began surveying the ops area.

  • Conditions for remote sensing data collection are still looking very good for Tuesday. Morning and afternoon flights are being planned for all three aircraft.
  • The Bold Horizon (BH) arrived in the ops area and the science party are retrieving/deploying gliders and beginning science operations.
  • The G-III arrived at Moffett Field today at approximately 1230.

Updates:

  • The Bold Horizon’s departure has been moved to Friday morning as a full work day is expected tomorrow to complete preparations for the cruise. The ADCP/Trackpoint was fully installed in the moon pool today and is ready to go. Good progress was made on the CTD/Rosette work.
  • The Twin Otter/Scripps team has arrived in Watsonville, CA and the aircraft is ready to go.
  • Saildrones are coming online Friday. Two are sailing into the operations area from the north, and two are sailing in from the east.
  • Scripps/WHOI Wave Gliders are surveying in the north and northwest of the operations area, while the UW Seagliders are moving eastward in anticipation of a new target.
