Funding Source:Bruce Tagg - NASA - SMD - ESD Airborne Science Program
Purpose of Flight:Science
Comments:The aircraft proceeded to the data collection area and began the seagrass grid at 3000' with 300m flight line spacing. It completed one seagrass grid and had just started a coral grid when a thunderstorm approaching the airfield required a quick RTB. The NAS rated the weather as thunderstorm condition 1 which implies imminent lightning on the airfield. The team appreciated the speed with which ATC authorized re-entry into the Class D airspace and the aircraft was back in the hangar well before the rain came.
