Comments:DAWN’s DATA flight #7, Wed 10 July. Target area VA-beach, overall very effective. N528NA Takeoff: 0840 L Landing: 1042 L Duration: 2.0 hrs (0.7 hr above 12.5K) Crew: Kagey (PIC), Wusk (OE), Cowen (QNC) Preflight and takeoff procedures were nominal. We took off on Runway 26, and climbed through a overcast cloud layer at between 1000-2000’. Larry completed powering up the DAWN system laser at the east end of the work area after overflying the first leg. Cloud cover existed over the NW corner of the work area and covered about half of the first track line. Heading west bound on the #6 track line we descended down to 3800 and found clear conditions below that would persist through the rest of the flight. Data lines ran from 1239Z to 1426Z in the following order:, 1, 6, 2, 7, 3, 8, 4, 9, 5, 10, 11, 12. We overflew the Chesapeake Light Tower at 3,800’ MSL at 1442Z. The passes were in the following order (times were rounded to nearest minute to help extract data): Line 1: 1254Z – 1257Z (W-E) Line 6: 1300Z – 1306Z (E-W) Line 2: 1308Z – 1312Z (W-E) Line 7: 1316Z – 1321Z (E-W) Line 3: 1324Z – 1328Z (W-E) Line 8: 1332Z – 1337Z (E-W) Line 4: 1340Z – 1345Z (W-E) Line 9: 1348Z – 1354Z (E-W) Line 5: 1357Z – 1401Z (W-E) Line 10: 1405Z – 1410Z (E-W) Line 11: 1415Z – 1418Z (W-E) Line 12: 1421Z – 1426Z (E-W). There was no requests made to repeat the first leg, or complete a diagonal leg as done on some previous flights. Next event scheduled: Probably next week, last flight requires clear conditions at Charlotte. 0800 brief/0830 board/0900 takeoff for Charlotte. fuel load will be 2750 lbs.
