| Comments: | Goddard's LiDAR, Hyperspectral and Thermal (G-LiHT) airborne imager was installed on LaRC's UC-12. A science data collection flight over the instrumented and monitored Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) near Edgewater, MD, on 22 March 2012 provided useful structural, spectral, and thermal data in forests during springtime “leaf-off conditions”, which will be compared with G-LiHT measurements collected during the peak of the 2011 growing season. An intersecting grid pattern of 23 tightly spaced ground tracks flown at 1000 ft AGL was completed. Extensive flight coordination with the FAA was required to operate within the Washington DC Special Flight Rules Area (SFRA). After data verification, the flights were deemed successful and the instrument was removed from the aircraft. Further G-Light flight operations are scheduled in May returning to the C-206 wing mounted configuration. | ||||
